WrestleMania Reading Challenge: Superstar Q & A
Follow Us On Twitter
In honor of the upcoming WrestleMania Reading Challenge, which will take place March 27 in downtown Phoenix, WWE.com talked to this year’s spokespeople, John Morrison, Kofi Kingston and
The Bella Twins, about their love of reading and the importance of books in their lives.
The Bella TwinsWWE.com: What is it about reading that you enjoy?
Nikki: I like to read because it totally sparks my imagination. You can read a book, and you are in that story. The story becomes real while you are reading.
Brie: No matter what is going on in my life, when I’m reading, I can put everything aside and become so wrapped up in a great character or get inspired by a story. A book can make me laugh. It’s an escape from the real world.
WWE.com: How does reading help you in your job?
Nikki: Reading gives me great ideas that I can use in and out of the ring. When I read about Latin culture, it inspired me to wear my flower in my hair, to wear ruffles, to be more like a Latin princess!
Brie: Reading helps with my creativity. It keeps my mind open to new ideas.
WWE.com: When and where do you read?
Nikki: Now with all the travel in my life, I read a lot on the plane. Sometimes I try to read by the pool or at the beach or in a coffee shop, somewhere that is peaceful and relaxing.
Brie: I love to read outside in the shade, in a quiet and peaceful place. If I see place like that, you will find me there reading.
WWE.com: What got you into reading?
Nikki: I got more into reading as I got older. I first got interested in self-help and inspirational books, mostly non-fiction. The non-fiction books led to reading more fiction. I particularly love
Harry Potter, and now I am into
Twilight. Once I didn’t have to read, like for school assignments, I loved it.
Brie: What got me into reading was always trying to stay inspired in my life. I started buying a lot of inspirational books to remind me to stay positive and live a happy life. I then started to buy love stories and more fiction.
WWE.com: What are your top three favorite reads of all time?
Nikki: The Secret by Rhonda Byrne, The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom and Yahoo! to keep up with my current events, sports, fantasy football and entertainment news.
Brie: The Birth of Venus: A Novel by Sarah Dunant, Soul Love: Awakening Your Heart Centers by Sanaya Roman, and Vogue magazine for its fashion and women-oriented articles.
WWE.com: What would you say to someone who doesn’t like reading to encourage them to give it a go?
Nikki: If you feel like being inspired or having a good laugh or escaping the real world, reading a book is the way to go.
Brie: You miss out on a life filled with imagination if you don’t read. If you want to escape, let your mind soar and dream of the possibilities of who you can be, then you should read.

Scottsdale-raised Bella Twins enjoying their WWE success

When Brianna and Nicole Garcia were 5 years old, the identical twins from Scottsdale stopped dressing alike unless their mother begged them to.
They had distinct personalities. And as the years followed, hair was dyed and cut, makeup styles experimented with and wardrobes carefully cultivated to maximize the differences between the two girls, born 16 minutes apart.
"Even though we're identical, we're like night and day," Nicole said. "I'm a little more urban, she's a little more hippie. And, I'm way more the Latina. I always want a flower in my hair, and I always want ruffles, and she's more like, 'Geez, can we lay off it.' "
But now the Garcia twins (as they were known through high school) are the Bella Twins, two of World Wrestling Entertainment's 16 costume-wearing glamazon Divas, part of the family of entertainers coming soon with WrestleMania XXVI. The two aren't wrestling, but will be making appearances during the week. Known as Brie and Nikki Bella, the 26-year-old women have turned their twinship, athleticism and passion for performance into a career. They play up their Hispanic heritage onstage, wearing the pinks and reds, the sequins and ruffles Nikki favors. And in live appearances and events, the two trend toward the blues, grays and blacks Brie prefers.
"I feel like I'm in this 26-year-old marriage, so I'm used to a lot of compromise" said Brie, who lives in Los Angeles, just far enough away from Nikki in San Diego that they don't drive each other crazy when traveling and working together four or five days a week.
"That helps us so much because it lets us be individuals on our off days," Nikki said.
This space apart, limited by frequent texting and calling, is vital for women who've had everything in common, but who still grew into adults with separate tastes and personalities. It's a delicate balance. Their professional lives depend on their ability to look and act the same, but their friendship depends on their ability to be themselves.
It's a struggle common to twins who, by nature or nurture, didn't grow up to be carbon copies of each other, regardless of how much they look alike.
